Baltimore City is blessed with one of the world's most spectacular downtown waterfronts. It's our joyful beating heart and our sacred public square, one designed to welcome in festivals and special events throughout the year.
It's also, by charter amendment, a public park with two designated spots at Pratt and Light streets for public commercial buildings of limited height. Harborplace has occupied this site for 44 years.
Developer MCB, whom the mayor admittedly chose in secret and devoid of public process, has plans to demolish Harborplace to erect multiple buildings, including huge apartment towers and an office building - all currently disallowed by the Baltimore City Charter and requiring zoning changes, rescinded height restrictions, lane closures, and a referendum.
Inner Harbor For Everyone rejects the privatization of public park land and the over-reach of MCB's planning goals, specifying changes well beyond their purview as a for-profit developer, which would greatly impact the downtown area and destroy the character of our beloved Inner Harbor forever.
The Inner Harbor must remain open for everyone's enjoyment.
Join the fight.
